The Last Son won Second Place in Thriller-Supernatural from The BookFest.

Death and gods are missing. Yokai are fleeing the Meido and Jessica is trapped there with an angel. Will she ever get home before the Meido ends?
This thrilling tale takes place on Mount Osore, on the other side of the Sanzu River, where Jessica learns all about the Meido path, yokai, and her angelic guide and the war that weighs heavily on his shoulders. This story includes actual locations, longstanding mythological destinations, ancient fighting styles, and traditional folklore.

A global crisis known as the 'living pandemic' is on everyone's minds, but no one has guessed the actual cause.

Hidden from the world's view, turmoil has taken over the spirit realms. Gods are disappearing one-by-one, and the angels are on the brink of civil war, led by a vengeful, faceless masked ghost. Only one man, an angel, rejected by this own kind and forgotten by all but one human, is at the center of it all.

Jessica, a dutiful nurse, who works hard to ease the burden of the 'living pandemic', comes face to face with this young man when he comes to visit his elderly twin sister, after being absent and remaining youthful for seventy years.

Through a series of unfortunate accidents, Jessica and this angelic stranger find themselves stuck in the trials of the Meido, where they must pass the tests of several kings or die. While in this hell, more is exposed: secret desires, past sins, traumatic pasts, tested allegiances, and a clue to the masked ghost.

Set on a final task by the gods, items of the royal regalia must be obtained to stop the end of all five realms and cure the pandemic before it's too late. However, with past wounds exposed and love unrequited, chances of success seem beyond slim.

Will the cause of the pandemic be cured, or will Jessica, hope, and her love for this mysterious angel all perish before the final end?

From the back cover:
Follow Jessica, a nurse, dedicated to her patients and her younger brother, but dissatisfied with life in this suspenseful-romance. Death seems to be nowhere and people aren't dying like they should. Young people have answered the call to become medical professionals; exchanging their youth to serve the perpetual living. Jessica feels that the life and career she has always wanted is beyond her reach, until a young man shows up at the home of her client. He looks awfully familiar to the family's long-lost son who disappeared seventy-years ago, but he is Jessica's age. Who is this dashing young man and where has death gone? Are the two related? Jessica learns the truth as she falls head over heels for this young stranger and into the Sanzu River, where on The Meido path, she discovers more than she ever expected.
