It was a snowy February night, Jemison Cordell was scrolling through Facebook when she received a voice message from an unknown number. She almost deletes it but decides to open it, "Jem! It's Laura! I need help! I've been taken! I'm......oh fuck their back......send help please......no please don't hurt me (screaming)......the line goes dead. Jemison jumps up, freaking out; she runs to her neighbor's house. She knows her neighbor is a police officer. She bangs on the door, "Chris! Jennifer!" Jennifer Hands opens the door, "Jemison! What's wrong? What's going on?" Jemison tries to tell her friend through the tears and hiccups, and she hands Jennifer the phone, "Laura......trouble......listen......." Jennifer listens to the message, Oh my God, Jem! Chris isn't here. He went in early. Let me call him.
Jemison braces herself for what she's about to watch. Jem nods her head at Portman, and he starts the video. She watches a few minutes of people getting in and out of their cars, entering and leaving the parking deck, when Laura comes into view. She watches as Laura has her hands full of bags and boxes and hits the button on her key fob to pop the trunk. Laura starts putting the things into the trunk when a masked man comes up behind her grabbing her, injecting her with something, and Laura goes limp, falling to the ground. The man kicks her limp body a few times before he picks her up, tossing her over her shoulder. Jemison gasps, holding her chest, whimpers, then faints. Chris and Jennifer both turn. Jennifer is jumping to catch her friend as they fall to the floor. Chris orders Portman to get him one of the on-hand medics they have at the precinct. The medic comes in and looks Jemison over. He notices she has a knot on her head. He suggests she be taken to the local hospital for observation. Jennifer agrees and goes with her friend and the medics.
"I'm Dr. Thomas Lucas, the one overlooking Miss Cordell's case. I have the results from her tests. Are you family?" When Chris addresses the doctor, "Dr. Lucas, I'm Detective Chris Hands. Jemison is our neighbor. She came running to my house because she'd gotten a message from her sister saying she'd been taken. We were all at the precinct watching video surveillance of her sister. She witnessed something rather disturbing when she fainted.
When their parents died a few years ago, we took it upon ourselves to look out for the girls. They don't have anyone else but us. So please share the results with us if you don't mind, Dr. Lucas." Dr. Lucas nods his head, looking at Jemison, feeling his heart constrict from the pain she's going through. "I would like to keep her for a few days to monitor her to ensure she gets what she needs." Upon getting closer to Jemison's room, they hear chaos happening. Jennifer takes off at a dead run with Chris right behind her. They round the corner and see a gunman standing in Jemison's doorway, threatening he'd kill anyone if they get closer. Before the gunman can close the door, he drops to the floor, losing his gun as it scoots across the floor. Everyone drops to the floor, Chris has his pistol drawn, looking around the corner to see if there's another shooter. Turning to Jennifer, "Stay here. I need to check things out. Don't move, do you hear me?"
He's stunned to see Dr. Lucas there with a pistol in hand. "Dr. Lucas, what's going on here?" Dr. Lucas turns to Chris, "One of my nurses came to me and told me there was a creepy guy lurking around Miss Cordell's door. I was coming to confront him when I stepped into the doorway where he was threatening everyone, then he raised his gun, and my training kicked in. Two center mass. Take out the threat. Secure perimeter."...
