Many people are "desperate for love" as if it will solve all their problems, well it won't. It might be a dream come true but it won't change life you have to do that. Those with that "I've got a lot of love to give to the right person" are usually the most selfish as they tend to hold on to love and not give it to others, hence they are usually forever single.

If you can't love others then you will be constantly seeking that "illusive" person that exists only in your mind. The more you love others the more love will flow freely within you and vice versa, the more the target your love the more you will alienate yourself. Anything done is desperation has ready made flaws. Yes it's good to have that special person but life is holistic and that comes with others baggage too, it's not just about you. If you don't think things through or have an idealistic view on life then you are going to be constantly disappointed.
