When you live on an Island 2,000 km from the nearest landmass, there isn't a lot of competition to be had. The Island Games brings amateur athletes with a sense of community from around the world in a celebration of sport. So what does a games like this mean to its participants?
To find out I meet athletes from far flung posts of the British Isles and others hoping to qualify for London 2012. I follow Twitter rumours to car parks around the Isle of Wight. searching for lifts and sport.
The Other Olympics is also available as a compilation journey to 13 international multi-sport events.
More than a medal drives these athletes. Ottille honours her donor at the World Transplant Games, Zeljko researches his art at the Gay Games. Armenians gather from around the world celebrating their independence and thousands are at the World Police and Fire Games in New York to commemorate the tenth anniversary of 9/11.
