David Copperfield is Charles Dickens's iconic Bildungsroman, originally published as a serial in a magazine from 1849 to 1850. The novel, which has strong autobiographical elements, was referred to by the author as his "favourite child." The portrayal of David Copperfield's life from early childhood to adulthood includes a vibrant cast of characters: from the tyrannical stepfather, through the enchanting Dora Spenlow, to the truly outstanding and impeccable Wilkins Micawber. David Copperfield's misadventures are recounted with humor and sharpness in the eternal classic. CHARLES DICKENS [1812–1870], born in Portsmouth, England, was the most popular English-language novelist of his time. He created a fictional world that reflected the social and technological changes during the Victorian era. Among his most famous works are David Copperfield, Oliver Twist, Great Expectations, A Tale of Two Cities, A Christmas Carol, and The Pickwick Papers.
