This short story is a tale of abuse and resilience. Precious had always been a tough girl, even as a child. Regardless of the difficulties she faced at home, she always managed to rise above them and find peace within herself. Her father would frequently make unreasonable demands of her, and both of her parents were poisonous and violent. Precious would spend her time at the neighborhood tavern, where she would spend her time listening to stories and finding comfort in the company of others, despite the darkness of her home life.
