Jen is openly lesbian.
Nikki is confused about her sexuality but thinks she's straight.
When Nikki moves in as Jen's new roommate, they immediately get along, although Jen is goth and sarcastic, and Nikki is your typical cheerleader girly girl.
The more time they spend together, the more Jen falls for Nikki. But when she confesses to Nikki about her feelings, Nikki tells her she's straight.
They put it behind them until summer break happens and Jen and Nikki and some of their girlfriends go away for a beach holiday.
