The city of Varlind lays in ruins after a deadly virus turned the majority of humans into aggressive, bloodthirsty zombies. Only a small group of survivors remains, holed up in an abandoned military outpost on the outskirts.

Led by former soldier Ashley, the survivors include mechanic Dagen, teenage siblings Aaron and Claire, and virologist Dr. Maria. Their latest recruits are Wayne, a robber, and the mysterious Ivan, who claims military experience.

While scavenging, Aaron and Claire discover documents detailing secret biological weapons experiments. It seems the outbreak was no accident, but a weapon unleashed.

That night, the survivors are attacked by zombies. In the ensuing battle, Wayne is bitten trying to save Ivan. With no cure, Ashley has no choice but to put him down.

Desperate for answers, the group ventures into the city to locate the research facility. But in the chaos of another attack, Ivan goes missing.
