The Guide to the Law of Evidence in the District of Columbia provides a condensed version of the two-volume The Law of Evidence in the District of Columbia (Treatise) that has been a practice staple in D.C. courts for nearly 50 years. Designed as a quick-reference, in-court resource for D.C.'s bench and bar alike, as well as for its many law students in clinical programs, The Guide to the Law of Evidence in the District of Columbia serves as an invaluable tool for analyzing threshold evidence issues during trial preparation, and for finding quick answers to evidence questions at trial. It is particularly useful to practitioners who appear in both the local and federal courts of the District of Columbia.

As does the parent Treatise, the Guide sets forth each Federal Rule of Evidence (FRE) followed by a summary of how that FRE is generally applied in federal courts. The Guide next concisely compares that FRE with D.C. local practice and provides abbreviated annotations of notable cases from D.C.'s local courts. And, as users of the parent Treatise have long known, the Guide reliably describes the evolving state of evidence law. In other words, the Treatise's core standards remain foundational with the Guide.
