A wonderful, romantic, and mysterious novel about a witch with domestic abilities and the royal household he serves supper to is both poignant and hilarious.
Finlay Ashowan is a mystery when he joins the King and Queen of Daxaria's staff. Nobody is aware of Fin's beginnings or how he got to where he is, which is wonderful for Fin. He is content to serve as the court cook, keep nosy bystanders out of his kitchen, and produce some very unusual meals.
Fin's undercover identity, however, is not kept a secret for very long. After all, it's not every day that a house witch chooses to dabble in imperial politics with her familiar kitten, Kraken. As his powers are ultimately appreciated by the court, Fin becomes embroiled in a number of conspiracies, including battling knights with less than honourable motives, assisting in the safety of the pregnant queen, avoiding the wrath of the royal wizard, and detecting a spy in the castle. And that's just the beginning, as Fin's love life grows increasingly convoluted and his background begins to catch up with him.
In the second novel of a beautiful and successful fantasy trilogy, house witch Finlay Ashowan must struggle with matters of the heart, hearth, family, and kingdom.
Finlay Ashowan appreciates keeping his affairs as nice and structured as his kitchen as a user of domestic magic. But his life is everything but ordered, with his responsibilities to the King and Queen of Daxaria and a new (covert) affair with Lady Annika Jenoure.
Before Annika is coerced into a political marriage that interferes with her carefully arranged plans, they'll need to resolve the troublesome issue of Fin's status as a commoner if they want their relationship to continue.
Another factor is that as the battle with Troivack nears, pressure is rising. The King agrees with Fin's request for relaxation time away from the castle, but only under one very specific condition: Fin must pose as a spy while figuring out the plans for the Troivackian army that are rumoured to be hidden there.
The situation will likely grow even more tumultuous as Fin's estranged father comes to Daxaria, adding to the already existing issues.
Fin becomes even more enmeshed in courtly intrigues, old feuds, and deeply personal crises as he forges new friendships and alliances with both magical and non-magical people. And the more he attempts to mend the multiple calamities in his life, the more evident it is that his problems are just getting started.
In the third novel of this fantasy romance series, house witch Finlay Ashowan is driven out of the kitchen and into the fire as combat, family, and love collide.

Finlay Ashowan has managed to marry Lady Annika Jenoure, and now all he wants to do is settle down, cook some excellent meals, and enjoy a calm existence in Daxaria. However, fate has other plans.

Annika's brother Charles has been taken prisoner, and the only hope for him to be released is if Annika or Fin go to argue his case, according to Fin's father, Aidan Helmer, a fire witch and servant of King Matthias of Troivack. There is no way that this scheme wouldn't involve some type of deception, given that Troivack's onslaught is near.

It's now up to Fin, with the support of his loved ones, friends, and smart cat Kraken, to try a daring rescue and espionage mission. But he'll need to act quickly, as all of his aims might be ruined if he can't figure out how to stop his father and keep Daxaria secure.

The House Witch 3 is a terrific continuation of this fascinating new series, full of romance, magic, courtly intrigue, mystery, and humour.
