The Bumfuzzle and Cattywampus; Unlikely Detectives series emerged from a conversation about unusual words. Eccentric seniors, Marge and Joey mirror their surnames, defined by Merriam-Webster Dictionary as:
Bumfuzzle: Transitive verb. Chiefly dialectal: Confuse, Perplex, Fluster.
(Marge's round about speech sometimes makes her almost incomprehensible.)
Cattywampus: Adjective, Dialectal: Askew, Awry, Cater-cornered.
(An old war injury has left Joey slightly shorter on one side of his body, causing him to tilt slightly. Although physically fit, he uses a walker to assist him with his balance.)
