The Frankfurt Kabuff as Creative Critique, by Beth Driscoll and Claire Squires
This substantial essay introduces The Frankfurt Kabuff as a scholarly intervention — one that crystallised years of observation and critical thought — by explaining the key theoretical ideas that shape the novella. The Introduction details how, as an act of writing and publishing, the novella created the conditions for further development of our critical engagement with contemporary book cultures. It highlights the potential of new methods and processes for humanities and social sciences research for contemporary book cultures and contextualises The Frankfurt Kabuff within the three frameworks of research, art and politics. The essay offers insight into the theoretical concepts that the novella advances, including autoethnography and other "autos"; the situation; political fictocriticism; and interparatextuality.
