Before the burst, Laney was nobody. Now she exists, and she's in charge.

After escaping from David, Laney has reunited with her fellow survivors in her hometown, Colton. They've taken David prisoner and started an underground settlement, safe from the sun's deadly rays and the devastating dust storms ravaging the surface.

Laney and her closest friends, Alana and Jerome, are now in charge.

Being at the top is not as easy as David made it look. With power comes responsibility. Laney must keep her band of survivors from fighting, figure out a way to reach her father, and above all, make sure everyone stays alive.

But determined not to follow David into darkness, Laney isn't sure she has what it takes to protect her friends and survive long enough to reach her father. But when the worst happens and a new, very human danger descends on Colton, Laney may have no choice but to embrace her worst enemy of all: death.
