The Dindon Noir de Sologne is a one-of-a-kind and extremely uncommon breed of turkey from the historic region of Sologne in central France. This breed, commonly known as the Sologne Black Turkey, is recognized for its exquisite appearance and excellent flesh. This breed is thought to have been developed in the late 1800s by breeding local wild turkeys with imported American varieties.
The Dindon Noir de Sologne's stunning jet-black plumage distinguishes it from other turkey breeds. Male turkeys have this color, whereas females have a faint black and brown pattern on their feathers. This breed is well-known for its high meat quality, in addition to its unusual appearance. Dindon Noir de Sologne has a delicate texture and a rich flavor, making it popular among chefs and consumers alike.
