The Jersey Buff turkey breed is a historic heritage breed that dates back to the nineteenth century in New Jersey, USA. It is one of the most endangered turkey breeds, with only a few hundred left in the world. The breed was designed originally for its exceptional meat and egg quality, as well as its ability to live in the hard winters of the Northeast. However, when the turkey industry became more industrialized and people preferred larger, faster-growing varieties, the number of Jersey Buffs declined dramatically.

The body of the breed is distinguished by rich, deep reddish-brown feathers with a golden undercoat, giving it a characteristic buff hue. They are medium-sized turkeys, with mature males measuring approximately 18 pounds and females weighing approximately 12 pounds. The Jersey Buff's appealing appearance and sociable demeanor make them ideal for both backyard flocks and demonstration reasons.

The Jersey Buff turkey breed has various advantages aside from its physical attractiveness. They are tough and adaptable, surviving in a variety of temperatures and terrain. They are also excellent foragers, requiring less feed than other commercial breeds. They are also good mothers, raising their young and protecting and caring for them.

The Jersey Buff turkey, as an endangered breed, is critical to conserving genetic diversity in the turkey population. Their survival is critical to the long-term viability and health of turkey breeds. As a result, efforts are being made to enhance the population of the breed and promote its wider adoption. This breed's distinct qualities and significance make it a great addition to any turkey enthusiast's flock.
