The Beltsville Small White turkey is a one-of-a-kind breed that first appeared in the United States in the early 1930s. This breed was established in the agricultural research center of Beltsville, Maryland, by crossing the Broad Breasted White turkey with the White Holland turkey. As a result, the turkey became smaller and more compact, with a higher meat production and a faster growth rate, making it a valuable contribution to the poultry business.

This breed gained popularity during the Great Depression because it was less expensive to raise and produced high-quality meat. However, due to the emergence of larger and faster-growing turkey varieties in the 1950s, the Beltsville Small White turkey became nearly extinct. Fortunately, a few determined breeders took action to conserve this rare species from extinction, and today, the Beltsville tiny White turkey can be found in tiny groups around the country.

Apart from its historical significance, this breed possesses a number of vital characteristics that make it an important element of the chicken business. Because of its broad chest, compact frame, and huge breasts, the Beltsville Small White turkey is an excellent source of white flesh. They are also noted for their gentle demeanor and pleasant nature, making them easy to handle and raise. Furthermore, due to their smaller size and slower growth rate, they are perfect for small farms and homesteads, allowing small-scale producers to enter the turkey market.

Finally, the Beltsville Small White turkey is a breed that embodies American history and is crucial to the turkey industry. With its distinct characteristics and qualities, it retains importance in the agricultural sector, supplying consumers with a sustainable and delectable source of meat.
