Edging Towards BioUtopia interrogates one of the most important environmental conflicts in recent science and technological history: the controversy about a proposed genetically engineered futurenatural, which may also invite catastropic biodystopia. The intense struggle over the environmental release of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and its highly politicised and narrow regulation offers a new politics of reordering life, intimately involving biobiz, science and resistance. In a revealing behind-the-scenes account, this book investigates the political technologies and regulatory manoeuvres in Australia aiming to contain and brush aside probing public debate. In the end, the book asks: just where is the bioutopian 'there'?
