The study looks closely at higher education faculty compensation and earnings from salary, and supplementary income from research institutes, writing, public speaking, and consulting. It also covers faculty satisfaction with compensation, job security, health and retirement benefits, information technology and work environment and relations with students and colleagues, among other job characteristics. The report also probes faculty attitudes towards advancement and discrimination in academia, querying them on the impact of prejudice related to gender, ethnicity, social class, age, religion, political conviction and other factors. Data is presented in the aggregate and for 12 criteria including academic field, size of college, type of college, academic title and other factors. The study is based on a probability sample of all full time faculty in North America.
