This report is based on a survey of more than 80 colleges regarding their assessment practices of both faculty and students. The study gives detailed data on the percentage of colleges and academic departments with assessment offices or assessment plans, what those offices and officers do and how well they are funded. The study looks at the use of outside assessment consultants, "assessment days," critical faculty-assessment office relations, assessment budgets and strategies, the use of student evaluations of faculty, of student evaluations of academic programs, and other means for assessing both students, faculty and indeed, overall institutional educational effectiveness.
