The Arabian Peninsula was much wetter in the past than it is today, with a generally arid climate on the peninsula, with periodic phases of increased rainfall leading to the formation of thousands of lakes, rivers and swamps. At this time, favorable conditions were established in the region for the migration of people and animals from Africa. Arabia has become a kind of migration hub.
