From Rome's Coliseum to the temples of ancient Egypt; with the fiery death of a Templar knight and the escape of concentration camp prisoners in Nazi Germany; Nefaste's journal unveils the unseen battle of good and evil's impact on history before Janis Koppel is drawn into its vortex.

In the Soul Collector lesser known events in history become the canvass that unveils the battle for good and evil fought in the silent chambers of men's souls. Nefaste, a disembodied warrior who serves in the legions engaged in this eternal conflict recounts his efforts to recruit those who would join him in serving the Prince of Darkness. Through the medium of the journal of a dead man, the rationalizations used to entice mortals to embrace evil are discussed as Nefaste recounts his involvement in the mysterious demise of Ahkenaten the heretic pharaoh and his queen Nefertiti. Manipulating human passions, Nefaste encourages the daughter of an emperor in an affair that ends with death in Rome's Coliseum but places the son of a gladiator upon the imperial throne. In medieval Paris, an ambitious lawyer encouraged by Nefaste, becomes the catalyst for the fiery demise of the Knights Templar. A young German schoolboy in the forests of Nazi Germany under Nefaste's influence participates in the hunt for escaped concentration camp prisoners with consequences for the young nurse reading the tale of Nefaste. The tale of the journal of Nefaste concludes with an unlikely tale of personal redemption. The journal serves as a canvas to unfold human weakness and discuss the never ending conflict that is the human condition.
