After experiencing an unlikely run-in with death during the winter of 2003, in Louisiana, Travis and his uncle Alvin unknowingly pull very dangerous people into their lives. This experience follows them many years later into their futures, culminating in a meeting with an uncanny news pundit, (Sandy Comeaux). Travis informs Sandy of a chilling mystery involving Springfield Avenue's unsolved murders that he witnessed more than a decade ago.

Alvin is a gifted genius struggling to be a good role model for Travis, (Travis is a talented writer). There are some things that an author should never publish, especially if it puts his life in danger. The Capers are not to be toyed with, something Travis regrettably begins to appreciate—but maybe it's a little too late?
