Rabbits and Moons is a smartly written book that will keep you reading late into the night. It is a novel about self-discovery laced with intrigue and a Central American romantic flare. Eleanor, who is the main character, has volunteered to work at an orphanage in Guatemala. She is there to look after the youngsters, along with several other volunteers from various countries around the world. She is also there to learn to speak Spanish well enough to be able to pass her college language requirement back home. Her desire to graduate from college becomes the driving force behind most of her decisions. The orphanage is located on a river in the middle of a rainforest. The accommodations are rough and the food is bland, yet the characters are fascinating. Each one well developed and carrying with them their own issues and complexities. Eleanor, a drifter and adventurist, has kept herself chased for a year before arriving at the orphanage, so as not to complicate her travels and goals. But when a handsome young man of mysterious origins and dealings enters her life, she unwittingly falls for him. This love becomes embroiled with twists and turns, which clashes and gnaws at her inner soul. Romance, murder, suspense, along with superb writing, what more could one want from a book?
