From the Preface: 'In the present volume I have endeavoured to expose to the reader the conception of a sequence of creative actions that begins with the formation of the globe and culminates in a vision of infinite possibilities attainable by anyone who follows the right line of development. I have endeavoured to show that, starting from certain incontrovertible scientific facts, all these things follow one another logically and that therefore, however far these speculations may take us beyond our past experience, they do not at any point interrupt the thread of an intelligible connection of cause and effect.
