In September 1947 Police Commissioner Arthur Wallander launched an aggressive campaign against gangsters who'd eliminated at least 11 small time hoods in Brooklyn. The killings were concentrated in the Borough Park, Bensonhurst and Bath Beach sections of Brooklyn. Among those killed was a small time car thief who was employed as an auto mechanic. Another 1946 murder took the life of bookmaker's runner Salvatore Montalbano.
