"Monsieur du Miroir (From "Mosses from an Old Manse")" by Nathaniel Hawthorne is a self-reflective essay from this beloved American author. In the book, he writes as the man he sees in the mirror in order to take a step back and look at life objectively. Though the book is lighthearted and charming, it also raises questions about what it means to be a self-aware being and how this can cross over into narcissism if one isn't careful.
