   Not today

Have you ever thought of getting a PhD in Awesomeness? Well, as awesome and appealing that idea might be, better read the fineprint first. The contemporary University is nothing more but a multi-headed mega corporation in its filthiest where education and diplomas have been turned into a mere trade commodity. And that is particularly true for the highest university degree - the infamous PhD. The book describes the sad reality shrouding the doctoral degree and the postdoctoral training based on the personal experiences of the author - from the lies and myths fed to PhD students and postdocs about a career in academia to the struggle and humiliation one faces afterwards when attempting to switch to industry. Today, most of the doctoral programs have been accommodated to the benefit of the university, rather than to what all those enthusiastic young people need in order to enter the dynamic job market battlefield as winners. Academia has become a conveyor-belt PhD belching factory disregarding any sustainable demand-and-supply strategies. The result is an over-flooded PhD job market and huge underemployment rates among doctorate holders who after graduation enjoy worse than worst social recognition, many of them forced to leave behind their main field of study and branch out. Life as an academic postdoc, academic advisors, job insecurity, career prospects, mental issues, discrimination, women in science, funding, trends in university management, higher education dynamics, government policies - it is all here with references to published research, international surveys, and census data. And it is not at all pink baby-unicorns and fluffy rainbows.
