Mike Parkes was an engineer before he became a driver for Ferrari in the 1960s. He was drafted by Enzo Ferrari to drive the Maranello, Italy's F1 cars in midseason of '66. Of his 7 grand prix starts Parkes qualified his Ferrari on the front row along with teammate Lorenzo Bandini for the July 3, 1966 Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps. Mike finished nicely, in second place, following the Brabham-Repco of Jack Brabham. Largely a driver of sports cars Mike finished behind 1967 Le Mans winner A.J. Foyt and Jim Hall, while he was paired with Ludovico Scarfiotti in a Ferrari.
