This book focuses on land and agriculture in the state of Kelantan between 1881 and 1941 by examining land administration and title system followed by a meticulous study of aspects of registration and measurement of land, collection of taxes, cultivation and agricultural activities then. The primary aim of this book is to reveal that prior to the British administration in 1910, Kelantan had had a land title registration system which was introduced in 1881. When the British were administering Kelantan, they needed only to streamline land administration to make it more efficient. During that period, the people in Kelantan were subject to land regulations, enactments and the British legal system. In fact, the British changed the subsistent agriculture to commercial production based on rubber. The enforcement of new land regulations under British colonial administration was opposed by the people in a bid to protect their rights to their heritage which were increasingly eroded. Nevertheless, the new land laws and regulations continued to be enforced in spite of protests against them.
