Mobile Application development has had an undeniable impact on how we interact with the digital world, dramatically altering the landscape of the internet and our connection to it. Its evolution gives a fascinating perspective into technological advancement and consumer behavior.

The sowing seeds of app development began with the introduction of Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) such as the Palm Pilot in the early 90s (1). These devices offered basic digital functions in a handheld device. Naturally, their evolution led to the creation of software applications or 'apps'. However, they were rudimentary compared to what we see today, often used in a business environment for jobs like spreadsheet management and note-taking.

However, the real game-changer hit the market in 2007 when Apple launched its first-generation iPhone along with the concept of smartphones –a comprehensive device that consolidated the functionality of a PDA, mobile phone, and iPod (2). A year later, they introduced the App Store, the first-ever digital distribution platform of its kind, allowing third-party developers to create spectacular applications and sell them to customers. From virtually nothing, the App Store grew quite soon to having almost 800 apps in a month itself, ushering in the age of app development.
