Who does OverDrive collect information from?

OverDrive will collect Personal Information and other information from individuals ages 13 and older, who choose to create, access, or use an OverDrive account. You affirm that you are at least 13 years of age and acknowledge that an OverDrive account is not intended for use by individuals under 13 years of age.

What is the age requirement for the holder of an OverDrive account?

Individuals under the age of 13 are not permitted to create, access, and use an OverDrive account, and we do not intentionally collect or maintain Personal Information from those who are under 13 years old. By using our Services, you are representing that you are at least 13 years old.

How does OverDrive protect my Personal Information?

OverDrive takes information security very seriously. We have implemented measures to protect against the loss, misuse, and alteration of your Personal Information. Any Personal Information that we collect is protected by physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to prevent unauthorized disclosure. We encrypt the transmission of sensitive data we collect from OverDrive account holders using secure sockets layer (SSL) technology and we store an encrypted hash of your password instead of the password itself. We use computer safeguards such as firewalls and data encryption and physical access controls to our buildings and files. We authorize access to Personal Information only for those employees who require it to fulfill their job responsibilities.

OverDrive does not guarantee error-free performance under this Privacy Policy. What information does OverDrive collect?

We may collect certain information about your interactions with us and information related to you and your use of your OverDrive account, including but not limited to, Personal Information, your online activity, digital content selections, reviews, ratings, your library card account number and/or Adobe® ID as well as Internet Protocol addresses, device types, unique device data, such as device identifiers, and operating systems.

By creating and using an OverDrive account with OverDrive and/or otherwise consenting to the sharing of information with us, you authorize OverDrive to collect and retain your Personal Information and, at your option, you library card account number and/or Adobe ID, and other information. Please be aware that your OverDrive account cannot be used unless you identify yourself to us.

Does OverDrive use tracking technology?

Yes, in order to help us continue to make improvements to our services, OverDrive analyzes information that is tracked each time you use our services, including your OverDrive account.

Examples of information OverDrive tracks include, but are not limited to:

  • What OverDrive-hosted webpages you visit;
  • General geographic information;
  • How you navigated to the OverDrive-hosted webpage;
  • How you utilize and interact with our services; and
  • Other anonymized information to help us improve our services.

OverDrive uses Google Analytics, including the Google Analytics Demographics and Interest Reporting feature, and other software to track website usage.

How does OverDrive use information?

OverDrive collects Personal Information and other information from you in order to:

  • Support the internal operations of the Services, including but not limited to support for: activities necessary to maintain or analyze OverDrive's services, network communications, user authentication or personalization of content, and security of users;
  • Sync bookmarks and most recent point viewed/played across devices;
  • Send you alerts about titles you may be interested in and information about new features of our service;
  • Notify you of changes to this Privacy Policy and other policies;
  • Offer you a chance to participate in select surveys;
  • Personalize our services to better reflect particular interests and preferences; and
  • Generally improve your experience.

You may choose whether you receive emails from OverDrive or not. If you opt-in to emails from OverDrive, OverDrive will only use your email address for specified uses. OverDrive will not send you any communications without your consent.

OverDrive may also use and share non-personally identifiable information, such as general demographic or location information, or information about the computer or device from which you access your OverDrive account. Additionally, we may anonymize Personal Information and share it in an aggregated form with third parties, advertisers and/or business partners in order to analyze service usage, improve the OverDrive service and your experience, or for other similar purposes. The use and disclosure of such anonymous information is not subject to any restrictions under this Privacy Policy.

What if I share my information with others while using my OverDrive account?

While using your OverDrive account, you may enjoy opportunities to post reviews, rate digital content, and share digital content information with others in public forums and on social networking websites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Goodreads. When you share such information, it is made public and is not subject to this Privacy Policy. We are not responsible for any third party's use of information you publicly display or disclose through our Services.

You may not share your information regarding your OverDrive account, including your credentials, and/or other information stored on your account.

How can I change my preferences or close my OverDrive account?

You can easily change your preferences to receive emails and updates from OverDrive by signing into your OverDrive account. Once in, you can change your password, email address, close your OverDrive account, and set and manage preferences, and associate devices with your OverDrive account.

What happens when I visit an external website not related to OverDrive's services?

Our services may include links to non-OverDrive websites, outside the control of OverDrive. These linked websites have separate and independent privacy policies and terms of use, which we recommend you read carefully.

Is my information transmitted to other countries?

Given that the internet is a global environment, using the internet to collect and process information necessarily involves the transmission of data on an international basis. Therefore, by using your OverDrive account and OverDrive services, you acknowledge and consent to the transfer of your information outside your country of residence to any country where we have facilities or engage third parties (including but not limited to, payment processors, cloud service or other Information Technology providers, and other companies that provide services to us). You understand that the

countries to which we may transfer information may not have as comprehensive a level of data protection as in your country.
