OverDrive Media Console v3.0 is Now Available for Download

OverDrive Media Console (OMC) v3.0, now available at your digital library website, offers many features that your patrons have been anticipating. You and all your users are invited to upgrade to the new OMC v3.0.

In response to the overwhelmingly positive feedback we received from our Transfer Wizard, we have added a Burn to CD Wizard. With OMC v3.0, patrons no longer need to launch Windows Media Player to burn to CD. Instead, in just a few clicks, patrons can burn WMA audio titles through OMC. Clicking the 'Burn' button launches the Burn Wizard, which guides the user through this simple and straightforward burn process. For your audiobook users who burn titles to CD, they will be excited to learn that the new Burn Wizard splits OverDrive's Audiobook parts into tracks (based on the existing MediaMarkers), allowing users to more easily navigate content they have burned to CD.

As announced and covered in the press, OverDrive will introduce the new OverDrive MP3 Audiobook (compatible with iPods). OMC v3.0 supports the new MP3 format. When OverDrive MP3 Audiobooks are available (coming Summer 2008), Windows users who have already installed OMC v3.0 will be able to use titles in this format. Users of earlier versions will need to upgrade to OMC v3.0 to enjoy OverDrive MP3 Audiobooks. To learn more about OverDrive MP3 Audiobooks, read the press release and Library Journal's coverage of the exciting news.

OverDrive is grateful for your feedback and suggestions that have allowed us to release this exciting new version of OverDrive Media Console. If you have any questions, please contact your Project Manager or email our Support Team at support@libraryreserve.com

First Tour of the Digital Bookmobile

The Digital Bookmobile will make its big (and we mean BIG) debut at OverDrive's Digipalooza '08 in July. Librarians attending the three day event will get a chance to tour this 69-foot, 18-wheel community outreach vehicle designed to drive digital book downloads at your library's 'Virtual Branch'.

You can be one of the first people to set foot on the Digital Bookmobile and discuss the possibility of an outreach event at your library when you attend Digipalooza. Conference registration is very limited, so sign up now at www.digipalooza.com.

What is the Digital Bookmobile? It's a high-tech tractor-trailer that will travel all across North America presenting programs that promote a host library's download media catalog and 'Virtual Branch' website. The vehicle is equipped with broadband Internet-connected PCs, high definition monitors, premium sound systems, and a variety of portable media players. Hands-on learning stations will show your patrons how to search the digital media catalog, use supported mobile devices, and download and enjoy eBooks, audiobooks, music, and video from your library.

Readers of all ages will have a blast when they learn about digital downloads at a Digital Bookmobile event. Libraries should consider making the Digital Bookmobile a part of multi-day community events, book fairs, and other reading initiatives for maximum public exposure.

The Digital Bookmobile national tour starts in New York City on August 10. Don't miss your chance to promote your download collection with the Digital Bookmobile. For more information, keep an eye on www.digitalbookmobile.com or contact Renee at Renee@overdrive.com.

Unique features of the device include the ability to switch effortlessly between audiobooks and live radio. Preset up to 32 stations to keep favorites only a click away. What is Team OverDrive Reading?
Dreamers of the Day
"Dreamers of the Day"
By Mary Doria Russell

OverDrive Audiobook
Books on Tape

Andy Hird, Customer Support Manager

Ever since reading "The Sparrow", I have found Mary Doria Russell to be an author that pulls you into the story through the minds of the characters. "Dreamers of the Day", her second historical fiction title, takes a slightly different approach.

Rather than being an intensely personal account as with her other titles, "Dreamers of the Day" revolves around Agnes, a woman without a strong personality of her own. Instead, her thoughts and actions are constantly influenced, if not decided, by those around her. But that is the point. Agnes' story takes place during the years after World War I, as the world attempts to recover from the war and the Spanish Flu. Surrounded by historic characters like Winston Churchill and T.E. Lawrence, she is caught up as an observer as the formulation of the present day Middle East begins.

For those that appreciate historical fiction that is both entertaining and educational, I recommend this audiobook. From a present day perspective, it provides a glimpse into the events of almost 100 years ago and how they continue to affect us today.

Eat, Pray, Love
"Eat, Pray, Love"
By: Elizabeth Gilbert

Lisa Coreno, Library Partner Services Associate

When I traveled through Egypt in February of this year, I wanted to take along a title about self-discovery intertwined with a hint of comic relief. The New York Times bestseller "Eat, Pray, Love", by Elizabeth Gilbert was the perfect fit!

The heartfelt memoir takes you on a journey through one woman's strength to find inner peace. Through failed love, depression, and a multitude of life changes, Gilbert prevails. She quits her job, travels around the world, and learns to embrace change, find balance, and indulge in life's pleasures.

Being an avid traveler, I enjoyed listening to Gilbert narrate about the sights, people, and customs of Italy, India, and Bali. It's easy to connect with her sense of reality and sense of humor. Her laugh and charismatic voice made the title that much more enjoyable to listen to. By the end of the title, you want desperately for her to come away with the inner peace she's searching for.

I would recommend this title to anyone looking for a new perspective on life; someone that's willing to accept change and cherish life's simple blessings.
