And her quest for safety sets in motion a mission that will be a rescue operation---or a chance for revenge.

A Slobbering Love Affair
By Bernard Goldberg
Do the mainstream media have a liberal bias? Sure they do, says CBS veteran and New York Times bestselling author Bernard Goldberg. But the media crossed an important line in the 2008 presidential race, moving from their usual unthinking liberal bias to crass partisanship of the crudest kind, practically acting as spin doctors for the presidential campaign of Barack Obama. In A Slobbering Love Affair, his most provocative book yet, Goldberg demonstrates how the media launched an unparalleled effort to ensure the election of the man they regarded as the One. From the thrill Obama sent up Chris Matthews's leg to the outrageously slanted "news" reports of the New York Times, Goldberg shows in exacting detail how the media, abandoning even the pretense of objectivity, moved from media bias to media activism.

Biographies & Memoirs |
Books
By Larry McMurtry
Larry McMurtry is known to be reclusive and extremely private, rarely giving interviews or making public appearances. Audiences are therefore sure to be eager to read this intimate and surprisingly personal memoir of the brilliant writer's love affair with books. McMurtry writes about his life as a boy growing up in a largely bookless world; as a young man devouring the world of literature; as a fledgling writer and family man; and as one of America's most prominent "bookmen," becoming the astute and adventurous collector who would eventually open stores of rare and collectible books in Georgetown, Houston, and his hometown of Archer, Texas.
In Books: A Memoir, McMurtry gives us a lively look at the eccentrics who collect, sell, or simply lust after rare books. Books is like the best kind of diary - full of wonderful anecdotes, amazing characters, great gossip, and shrewd observations about authors, book people, literature, and himself.

Just When I Thought I'd Dropped My Last Egg
By Kathie Lee Gifford
From Kathie Lee Gifford, beloved television host and bestselling author of I Can't Believe I Said That, comes a funny, candid, and personal collection of essays.
This smart and witty collection of opinions, observations, and anecdotes covers a broad range of personal topics. Kathie Lee Gifford's stories are often funny, sometimes heartfelt, and always compelling-think Nora Ephron's I Feel Bad About My Neck meets Carol Burnett.
No subject is off-limits: talking to her kids about sex, being married to Frank Gifford, embarrassing professional gaffes, run-ins with celebrities (of which there are many), the harsh and funny realities of aging. It's all here, told with intelligence, grace, and comedic wit. Written by Gifford's own hand, this highly original and readable volume will make you laugh out loud as you reach for the phone to share one of these charming, quirky, and colorful observations.

The Classic Hundred Poems
By William Harmon
Imagine if Billboard compiled a list of the top 100 poems, chosen not by critics or professors but by the people themselves. That's the concept behind The Classic Hundred, and it works brilliantly. William Harmon found the 100 most anthologized poems in English, based on the ninth edition of The Columbia Granger's Index to Poetry-the most objective measurement of greatness available, representing consensus among the editors of some 400 anthologies. Then he put them in order and prefaced each one with concise, erudite, often humorous commentary. The range of poets, subjects, and forms-from Shakespeare to Frost, from love and death to crime and punishment, from sonnets to odes-makes this an entertaining, enlightening, and indispensable aural guide to the finest verse in the English language.

The Missing
By Tim Gautreaux
Sam Simoneaux's troopship docked in France just as World War I came to an end. Still, what he saw of the devastation there sent him back to New Orleans eager for a normal life and a job as a floorwalker in the city's biggest department store, and to start anew with his wife years after losing a son to illness. But when a little girl disappears from the store on his shift, he loses his job and soon joins her parents working on a steamboat plying the Mississippi and providing musical entertainment en route.
Sam comes to suspect that on the downriver journey someone had seen this magical child and arranged to steal her away, and this quest leads him not only into this raucous new life on the river and in the towns along its banks but also on a journey deep into the Arkansas wilderness. Here he begins to piece together what had happened to the girl--a discovery that endangers everyone involved and sheds new light on the massacre of his own family decades before.

Always Looking Up
By Michael J. Fox
Always Looking Up is a memoir of this last decade, told through the critical themes of Michael's life: work, politics, faith, and family. The book is a journey of self-discovery and reinvention, and a testament to the consolations that protect him from the ravages of Parkinson's.
There are many words to describe Michael J. Fox: Actor. Husband. Father. Activist. But readers of Always Looking Up will soon add another to the list: Optimist. Michael writes about the hard-won perspective that helped him see challenges as opportunities. Instead of building walls around himself, he developed a personal policy of engagement and discovery: an emotional, psychological, intellectual, and spiritual outlook that has served him throughout his struggle with Parkinson's disease.
Michael's exit from a very demanding, very public arena offered him the time-and the inspiration-to open up new doors leading to unexpected places. One door even led him to the center of his own family, the greatest destination of all.

Gareth Stevens: Math in Our World |
Counting in the City
Math in Our World presents the complete range of math concepts and skills students are expected to master during the first grade. The series moves sequentially, each book covering a different math topic. The first volume reviews the math concepts students should have learned in kindergarten. The next six books cover counting, adding and subtracting, tables and graphs, money, patterns, and measuring. The eighth volume is a summary of the math concepts students have studied throughout the year. The text in each book has been carefully leveled to match students' reading levels as they progress from the beginning of first grade to the end. In addition, each book presents situations that show the relevance of math to children's daily lives.

Get to Know: Tantor Media |
Tantor Media started in San Clemente,CA, and moved to its current Old Saybrook, CT, location in 2004, where it's grown from five to 60 employees in three years. The company has evolved into a leading publisher of unabridged audiobooks in multiple formats including digital download.
Tantor's audiobook recording software enables approximately 45 narrators, including Audie Award winners Simon Vance and Alan Sklar to record books offsite, ostensibly in their very own living rooms, then send them to Tantor's offices for editing.
Today Tantor produces as many as 50 titles per month. Of the approximately 1000 books on its list, two-thirds are popular nonfiction and one-third is fiction, though in the last year Tantor has been filling out its fiction stores. Michael Stanley's A Carrion Death, and Fidel Castro and Ignacio Ramonet's Fidel Castro: My Life, were both
2008 LJ Best Audio picks, and this year, nine of Tantor's titles were nominated for the Audio Publishers Association's Audie Awards; among them The White Tiger, and The Hemingses of Monticello.
